One person CAN make a difference.

Damon believes in giving away perfectly good
items to help others who can benefit from them.
It’s August and school age children are probably not thinking too much about returning to school, but I am sure most parents are already noticing the commercials, advertisements, and back to school signs in the stores.

While the economy is still slow and many people are still looking for work, it is a wonderful time to consider donating clothes, coats, and footwear  to worthy organizations. Clothes that can no longer be worn by children in the house can be donated to organizations such as the Salvation Army and even community based not for profit organizations that feed and clothe the homeless. Where I live there are many locations that have collection bins in shopping center parking lots and other locations.

Recently, I became aware of a young man who is the son of one of my childhood friends. Damon graduated college this year. He literally loaded up his SUV with his coats, suits, shirts, pants, and footwear he cared very much about, but chose to bless others who needed those items more than he did. Damon drove into a lower income neighborhood. He stopped a homeless person he found on the street and asked the man if he wanted the clothes. The man determined he could not fit the clothes but he directed Damon to an area in town where many homeless people congregated. Damon drove there, got out of his SUV and announced to the people his desire to bless them with his belongings. Everyone was allowed to select from the items he had so carefully placed on hangers on a bar across his car, and footwear he lined up just as neatly.

In his own words, Damon wrote next to a video of the occasion he posted on Facebook: “My family and I rolled up and we were immediately immersed in love and happiness and no one had any idea that I we were there to glorify them. The rest of the story is history and I am forever changed…”

My hope is that each of us can demonstrate that same type of benevolence Damon demonstrated to one or more people this year whether it is with clothes or in some other way. And to Damon I would like to say you are an outstanding young man and I know your parents are proud of you as we all are.

Be blessed!
