A few years ago my parents gave us a gift of roses to plant in our front yard. In fact, my father even planted it to make sure it was done right (I was still a Gardner in training; well I'm still a Gardner in training but that's not the point "smile") All the normal care was provided to the rose plant but for some reason it did not do well. It produced one or two roses during the spring/summer season but we expected it to do better. Finally, we decided to transplant it to the backyard where it would receive more sun and have more room to grow. Amazingly, the plant began to flourish! Now it produces more than six to 10 roses during the spring/summer seasons and looks very healthy. What changed?
What changed was the environment it was growing in. Sometimes, the same thing must be done with people. Sometimes you must remove individuals and even whole families from environments that are not healthy for them into locations where they can flourish and reach their potential! Maybe their previous location had a bad school system. Maybe it was drug and crime infested, or lacked sufficient positive activities and role models for the individual to follow. Maybe it was just time for a change.
The point is to pay attention to how your child or other loved one (or even plant life) is doing and then do whatever is necessary to give them a fair shot at life and to reach their potential. Like I said, it may (or may) not include moving them to a better environment.
