Last week I went to pick my family up in a rain storm. For whatever reason I pulled out my iPhone briefly to check something, wiped off the few drops of rain that wet it and put it back in the case. The nex day I notice one section of the screen was no longer responsive.
Now, let me ask you a question. How do you operate a touch screen device when one section of the screen no longer responds? You can't! So I went to the Apple store and made an appointment to speak to an Apple Genius (Apple technicians are given a title of Genius, cute). Anyway, it was 2:00 p.m. and my appointment was scheduled for 4:00 p.m., so I took the wifey to lunch.
I knew they had to replace the phone since I researched the problem and found out that it is a know issue. The problem was my Apple Care two year warranty had expired. So, how did I make out?
I met with the Genius. It was a one-on-one Genius session, lol. I told him the steps I had taken to try and resolve the problem. He confirmed that my warranty had expired, but to my delight he said he could replace the phone for FREE under a different program.
Four days later I had my new iphone (original 1st generation iPhone). I say new, but it could be a refurbished iPhone. Nonetheless, I ensured he wiped my old iPhone of all data and activated my new iPhone. I then took the device home and restored all of my contacts, music, applications as well as personal memos stored on it.
The only annoying thing I had to do was call AT&T an activate a data plan on the new phone, which took ten minutes. So after having the iPhone for two years with an expired warranty Apple still gave me a replacement iPhone. I think I'll remain a loyal iPhone customer!
