Cox Communications turned on the high speed internet service and the cable TV service for my daughter and her roommate's residence. After which, I used a splitter to attach the TV and then the cable modem to the jack in the wall. The Modem is a Motorola Surfboard SB5120 (which I had previously called the customer serial number and the MAC address into Cox Communications). I then connected a Linksys Wireless G 2.4 GHz Broadband Router to the modem and configured it to only accept wireless connections from predefined MAC addresses (in other words, only network cards in computers predefined by me can connect to their wireless router). This will keep other people from "stealing" bandwidth or piggy-backing onto their router. I also changed the password used to administer the router so no one could do harm there.
So, their main entertainment unit consists of an Xbox (which can play DVD's), a 32" RCA TV, a no-name brand CD player with external speakers, the wireless router and cable modem.
