In January I began experimenting with the new telephone technology called Voice Over IP (VOIP). VOIP allows you to use your DSL or cable modem equipment along with a special router to make telephone calls over the internet. Why would anyone consider doing this? Three words, to save money!
There are many companies offering VOIP. The company I choose cost $24.95 per month for UNLIMITED local and long distance calls. That's right. I have caller id, voice mail, call forwarding and many other services for just $24.95 per month. I even had the phone number I've had for the last 20 years switched over to this new service. Add a separate fax line for just $9.95 per month. Wow!
There is some work to making it happen, like installing the router they send you, filling out paperwork to have your old number switched over, etc. But with a little effort and patience you too can begin enjoying this fairly new technology!
