Switching from Vonage to Comcast Digital Voice Service
Wow, today I bid farewell to Vonage. Well, not actually but I made the first step. The Comcast technician showed up within the allotted hours to perform the work. Fifteen minutes before he arrived I disconnected the Vonage equipment (two Linksys hubs that handled my three phone numbers). I expected it to be a pretty straightforward install.
First, he swapped out my standard Motorola broadband modem and replaced it with a modem that had the phone connections built into it. Second, he identified the MAC address of one of my computers to Comcast so that my broadband service would work. Next he connected the two lines. After calling Comcast to correct the two numbers that would be ported over to this new service my phones were up and running. At that point his job was done.
Next, I had to clone my MAC address from the computer he used to identify my account onto my Linksys Wireless Router so that the rest of my computers and devices could access the Internet. Once this was completed I was able to plug the ethernet cable into my Linksys device directly from the Comcast modem and plug my laptop back into the linksys Router. And bam, Internet service for all of my wired and wireless computers, Tivo, Apple TV and Roku music player was available again!
Finally, I will call Vonage and tell them the bad news on Monday. It was good while it lasted.
I love it when a plan comes together!
