While reading the morning news on March 24, 2007, from the Internet I read an article that made me shake in my boots. The telephone service I have been using over the past two years and saving tons of money is now allegedly threatened with shutting down its VOIP business. That would directly affect my phone service!
Vonage is now in a legal battle for its life to remain in the local and long distance phone business after losing a court battle with Verizon over at least three patents Verizon owns. Besides a fine, a judge will decide their future in two weeks. So what should I do? My choice was to call up Comcast and schedule an appointment for their package deal for Broadband Internet, TV and Digital Voice calling services. Hey, I had two of their three services anyway and Verizon FIOS is not yet available in my area code. Besides, for the $129 package (plus the rental cost of each cable box) I will regain the premium channels I cancelled last year to save money, lol.
Vonage is assuring its stock holders and customers there is no imminent danger of them going out of business and their fate could take years to decide in the court system. Personally, I decided to switch now. The alternative is to possibly wake up on April 7 with no phone service!
